Lead Lined Drywall

Lead Lined Drywall

Lead lined drywall is the preferred choice when constructing a room which requires shielding from radiation.  Contractors use this product for radiation shielding in construction in all types of medical and dental facilities, industrial buildings and laboratories.  The manufacturing process consists of laminating lead sheet to drywall using a permanent adhesive.  This process creates an continuous sheet of lead drywall to cover walls, providing shielding of x-rays, gamma rays and other forms of radiation.  Lead lined drywall may also be referred to as lead-lined sheetrock, lead wallboard or lead-lined gypsum board.

If you do not have a forklift or loading dock to receive the product, you will need to use.  You will first hang the lead sheet and then install locally sourced drywall over the sheet.

Typically our lead-lined drywall ships as 5/8 inches thick, although 1/2-inch gypsum board is available. If you’re not sure what thickness or specification is most appropriate for your project, or you require a niche product for a specialist application, we are almost always able to help. We can provide lead-lined gypsum board in large volumes almost immediately, supplying you with the materials you need for successful, on-schedule construction.

Moisture & Mold Resistant Fire-Rated Drywall / Gypsum Board (Regular & Type X)

Product Description

Almatin’s moisture and mold resistant gypsum boards are engineered for use on interior walls and ceilings, offering enhanced durability, safety, and long-term performance. These boards feature a specially formulated moisture-resistant gypsum core, encased in 100% recycled, moisture- and mold-resistant face and back papers—light violet on the face and bronze on the reverse for easy identification.

Designed for versatility, Almatin gypsum boards can be painted, textured, or wallpapered using standard gypsum board finishing techniques, making them suitable for both functional and aesthetic interior applications.

Installation Guidelines

During installation of leaded drywall, special attention must be given to maintaining continuous radiation shielding across all penetrations, seams, and cut-outs.

  • Lead shielding must be added at electrical outlets, switch boxes, fastener penetrations, and panel seams.

  • In most applications, Almatin leaded drywall panels can be mounted directly to wood or metal studs using standard drywall screws.

  • Each fastener must be covered with a lead disc (lead tab) matching the thickness of the laminated lead sheet (available up to 1/8″ thickness) to prevent radiation leakage.

  • Screw heads should be properly dimpled to allow secure bonding of lead tabs using a quick-drying construction adhesive.

  • Once lead tabs are installed, drywall compound can be applied to feather and smooth all fastener locations.

  • Panels can be taped, floated, and finished using standard drywall practices.

  • When used in ceiling applications, additional fasteners or structural support may be required to ensure proper load-bearing and long-term stability.
