Meeting Radiation Shielding Needs in Nuclear Pharma with a Custom L-Block

Delivering High-Precision Radiation Shielding for Nuclear Pharma

pharma

In the rapidly advancing field of nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceutical research, specialized radiation shielding solutions are essential for ensuring safety, precision, and regulatory compliance. When one of the leading radiopharmaceutical companies in the United States required a custom-engineered L-Block and Shielded Cave, they partnered with MarShield to deliver a complete, end-to-end solution.

The project moved through several design iterations, incorporating detailed client feedback and engineering insights. This collaborative approach ensured optimal functionality, safety performance, and seamless integration with the client’s existing workflow.

This case study highlights the key stages of the development journey and demonstrates how MarShield’s deep expertise in radiation protection enabled the delivery of a high-performance, custom-built shielding system tailored to the client’s exact requirements.

Material Selection

Selecting the right radiation shielding materials was essential to achieving maximum safety, durability, and long-term performance. Almatin’s engineering team chose 11-gauge 304 stainless steel for its strength, corrosion resistance, and resilience in high-usage environments.
To ensure effective radiation protection, ASTM-grade pure lead was integrated into the design, providing a shielding thickness of ½ inch.

By combining premium stainless steel with precision-cut lead plates, the custom L-Block and shielded cave were engineered to withstand prolonged exposure to radioactive materials while remaining user-friendly inside a laboratory.
Additionally, lead glass viewing panels were incorporated to offer clear visibility without compromising safety.
